A Tumblr Supporting Consanguinamory

You can find a lot of interesting stuff on Tumblr. You have to wonder if that's going to change moving forward now that it is being swallowed up by Yahoo. (Youngsters: look up "GeoCities.") For now, you can find things like Gay Brotherly Love, which is relevant to this blog. (For those of you unfamiliar with Tumblr, you can find much there that is NOT SAFE FOR WORK, so be warned. Here's what GBL is about...

An Opportunity For a Brave Father and Son

Here's a quick roundup of how pop culture was looking at incestuous themes this week.

The mother-daughter video performer team I blogged about a while back is back in the news again. They want a father-son team to join them. Here's the article from that is at huffingtonpost.com...

The Sexxxton
Jessica Sexxxton, 56, and her daughter, Monica, 22, have been shooting sex scenes together for the last 18 months for their own self-titled website, sometimes sharing the same partner, but not at the same time and never with each other -- a technicality that keeps their films from being legally considered incest.

Now the Tampa, Fla.-based twosome are hoping to take their unorthodox relationship to the next level, with a nationwide search for a real father and son willing to shoot a porn film scene with them.

"It's something we've considered for a while," Jessica Sexxxton told The Huffington Post. "We once dated brothers in real life on and off for a couple of years. They were closer to [Monica's] age, but we haven't done a father and son in real life or on camera."
This was also covered at bhaskar.com and ibtimes.com. Of course some of the people covering this call it disgusting, but they've chosen to focus on it and write about it anyway. Hmm. I wonder how much "research" they are doing on these women and their videos?

As my readers know, I don't think there should be any laws restriction what this mother and daughter do with each other on or off-camera, and same goes for any male performers they may work with. They are consenting adults, after all.

And Liana Maeby was back with her weekly roundup of "incest" in entertainment. Here's the previous update on her list. This time, in addition to this latest news from the Sexxxtons, she covers Arrested Development (cousins) and John Ford's play, 'Tis Pity She's a Whore. She even brings up the silly "casting incest" I wrote about before when it comes to The Fault in Our Stars and Divergent.

Consanguinamory is a very popular theme in erotica, and has always been a theme in literature, theatre, and mythology because it has always been a part of life. I wonder what we'd find in the love lives of people who make a point of badmouthing the love lives of other consenting adults (fictional or real)? That someone who isn't involved thinks that consenting adults are doing something disgusting with each other should have no power to stop those consenting adults from enjoying each other and loving each other.

Two Different Themes Lumped Together

Liana Maeby at hitfix.com appears to be keeping track of depictions or implications of "incest" on television, DVD, and cinema. I recently blogged about another listing she did, and here's her most recent listing.  (SPOILERS for Game of Thrones, Bates Motel, True Blood, The Last Days of Anne Boleyn, The Avengers 2 and Behind the Candelabra might be at that link and below.)
Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch
Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch

The Avengers 2: Earlier this month, it was revealed that Marvel would be adding incestuous mutant twins Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to the superhero sequel, and this week, Joss Whedon gave an interview about the controversial pair, stating: "They’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.” Does that mean they're in there to make out??
Any fans of those characters who want to comment here?

She also lists Hjemlengsel, which I blogged about here.

Unfortunately, Maeby lumps together assault with consensual sex and affection, and stigmatizes consensual sex, as do some of the productions she mentions. It makes as much sense as having a single list of depictions of sexual assaults by strangers and casual sex between strangers in media for the last week. Entertainers, journalists, legislators, and law enforcement should make a distinction between assault/abuse/molestation and consensual relationships and sex between adults. I challenge Maeby and others to read the words of people who are hurt by prejudice against consanguinamory and to consider that there's no good reason why people in such relationships should be discriminated against.

Response to Jeremy Irons: So What?

Actor Jeremy Irons commenting on the limited same-gender freedom to marry, asking if fathers might marry their sons to tax purposes.

So what if they did? To me, it sounds like the problem could be in how the taxes work. This blog is NOT about tax policy, so that's all I have to say about that. This blog IS about freedom of association and relationship rights, including full marriage equality. So, if a father wants to marry his adult son, for whatever reasons, it shouldn't be anyone else's business.

My response to Irons and anyone opposing equality:

What's wrong with letting consenting adults have the relationships they want?

No, gay marriage is not the same thing as incest. Most consanguineous relationships are between heterosexuals, after all. But there are gays and lesbians who'd marry a close relative if they could. We should not forget that, not fail to stick up for their rights, too.

Father-Son GSA

I am bumping up this entry dealing with Genetic Sexual Attraction because it is just as relevant as ever.

Someone calling himself Saul wrote to Miriam Stoppard’s advice column…

When I was in my teens and still thought of myself as straight, I had a brief relationship with a girl. Now, 20 years on, I've been contacted by the son I never knew existed and he's gay like me.

I think it's great he's happy with his sexuality and I love having him in my life - it's like being with my younger self.

What really bothers me is I've started to become attracted to him. A 15-year relationship ended last year and I hate myself for thinking the things I've been thinking. What should I do?

Saul should be careful. As with attraction in another other case, the feelings might not be mutual or even if mutual, the other person may not want to act on them. Saul does not indicate that he thinks it is best for him not to act on his feelings, though he did write that the feelings bother him.

If he isn’t open to acting on his feelings, then he should not tell his son about them, and instead seek advice on how to cope from people who have been through the same thing at this website. Most people, at some point in their lives, have attractions that they do not express, at least not to the person to whom they are attracted.

Maybe there just needs to be more time, and the feelings will go away.

However, if they don't and if Saul is open to acting on that attraction, then he should be as cautious as he would be in any other delicate situation, such as with a friend or coworker, but keep in mind that there is much prejudice.

For example, the columnist writes…

You must resist the temptation to express your feelings for your son by touching him sexually.

Why? If they both want it, then they are consenting adults. They don’t currently rely on each other; one is not the boss, landlord, or legal guardian of the other.

This would be incest and you would create disastrous, complicated, serious problems for yourself and your son.

The only problems I can think of, besides the normal risks inherent in sexual relationships, is prejudice. Remove the prejudice, and suddenly there aren’t so many problems.

Fate has placed him in your path and you should fulfil your destiny and be his dad.

The young man is an adult. If he doesn’t have a “dad” already, then Saul can be both his father and lover. How about opening up that mind a little?
