Liberty Counsel Had A Really Shitty Year
In 2013, as in past years, we continued to diligently promote and protect natural marriage and families. During this year, we filed federal lawsuits challenging laws in California and New Jersey that prevent minors from receiving Christian counseling to overcome unwanted same-sex attractions or behavior. We continued to defend a Massachusetts pastor who faces charges from the radical group, Sexual Minorities of Uganda (SMUG), for allegedly violating international law while visiting Uganda, simply because he spoke Biblical truth about same-sex activity. Liberty Counsel filed two briefs with the U.S. Supreme Court on cases dealing with the definition of marriage.And what do all those items have in common? Snork!

The Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2009 seeks to establish a comprehensive consolidated legislation to protect the traditional family by prohibiting any form of sexual relations between persons of the same sex; and the promotion or recognition of such sexual relations in public institutions and other places through or with the support of any government entity in Uganda or any other non governmental organization inside or outside the country. The Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs said in its Report, “The Bill aims at strengthening the nation’s capacity to deal with emerging internal and external threats to the traditional heterosexual family.” The Committee also said that there is need to protect the children and youth of Uganda who are vulnerable to sexual abuse and deviations as a result of cultural changes, uncensored information technologies, parentless child development settings and increasing attempts by homosexuals to raise children in homosexual relationships through adoption and foster care. The Anti Homosexuality Bill provides a fourteen year jail term for one convicted for the offence of homosexuality; and imprisonment for life for the offence of aggravated homosexuality.

Scott Lively Launches Bid For MA Governor
His campaign motto is "Qualified. Experienced. Electable." Publicly available campaign finance records show he has about $3,000 in his coffers, including a $2,000 loan to himself. Lively said he does not believe being the target of a 2012 lawsuit in federal court leveled by Sexual Minorities Uganda in connection with his anti-homosexuality campaign in that country will hurt his chances as a candidate. "If anything, I think it will help me when people learn how ridiculous the lawsuit is," he said during an interview. Lively is running as an independent in the "bluest of the blue states," he said. He said he will be a viable option for conservatives whom, he said, have been abandoned by Republicans and have no connection with Democrats, to whom he refers as "Communists." "The people of Massachusetts need a candidate who can clearly and unapologetically articulate Biblical values without fear or compromise," his campaign literature states. "They need a candidate who will tell the simple truth that abortion is murder, and homosexuality is condemned by God (but that Jesus forgives those who repent)."PREVIOUSLY ON JMG: Lively says gays are bringing the end times. Pastor Scott Lively Files For Dismissal With First Circuit Court Of Appeals
This Court cannot be the first tribunal, worldwide, to recognize a claim for "persecution” based upon sexual orientation, because the ATS [Alien Tort Statute] precludes judicial creativity, requires judicial restraint, and provides only limited jurisdiction over clearly defined and universally accepted norms (Ex. A at 15-21); and (3) Lively’s alleged speech and conduct are not “criminal activity” but core political expression protected by the First Amendment (Ex. A at 21-25). The lower court usurped its authority in refusing to dismiss this action, because it is clearly without jurisdiction and SMUG’s claims are firmly foreclosed by the First Amendment. An extraordinary and immediate intervention by this Court is necessary because Lively has exhausted all alternatives and has no other viable means to confine the lower court to the lawful exercise of its proscribed jurisdiction, and to safeguard his First Amendment rights.Lively is being defended pro bono by the Liberty Counsel.
